The patch problem with permanent status effects really has me hosed. And saved games are not backwards compatible. Soooooooo. Uninstall/re-install/start fresh with the second patch. It's not that I mind so much starting over, I do it all the time. But I havbe SO many characters/parties in the wings that I'm gonna loose.  And I swear, I SWEAR TO PHOONZANG BY ALL THAT'S HOLY! That THIS time, I create one party, I play one party, I finish the game. (Then, of course, I can begin again without guilt) |

my game got totally french fried tonite, too. i had the new patch in, dealt with having to restore a few teammates. but then i started getting freezes, followed by crashes.
i was running 2 parties, both at different stages. so i decided i didn't like those crashes and that i would re-install, on top of what was already there.
oh geeze! bad move. i could get into the main window but choose anything and it crashed with all kinds of debug assertion errors.
ok. so then it was uninstall, delete reg key, reinstall. i got it patched with b. opened it up and it wouldn't recognize ANY of my saves! i didn't even have the 39 chars i made. (LOL! you all made a million chars, too! all of yas!!) gaaah! i found my original saves with b, but it wouldn't see those. something about 1.2.2 had messed up all my old saves, even the pre 1.2.2 ones!!
ok. so then i uninstalled, deleted reg key, reinstalled. didn't patch it with anything. and it ran.
so, no patches, no savegames, and no chars. i really am starting all over. i don't mind. i enjoy the game that much. but i'm upset that 1.2.2 has no backwards compatibility and that it is causing so many peripheral problems.
boohoo! for the patch and 3 1/2 hours spent mucking around in the wee wee hours.
yay! because i still love the game, and am almost happy that i get to make a clean start again. sorry, i haven't been to sleep tonite and if i sound like i'm complaining too much, please take it with a grain of salt.

~~merkin~~ oh, the Blonde Brigade lives on.  they are currently in the monastery, laughing at all the horrible ways that Mistress Zork can be killed by monsters! (she's our resident mage and has all of 5 hps) oh boy! i must say it didn't take but 2 or 3 minutes to get sucked back in. i started recreating some old friends, but that was kinda sad. so instead, started making new friends. i created enough for 3 parties and immediately forgot all my frustrations and was right there. as a card-carrying member of ReStarters Anonymous, and as many chars as i had created the first time, i still only ReStarted 3 times. so, i knew that at some point, i would have to "Begin Again".  i haven't had an experience like wiz8 in a looooong time!! it's a great game, even with it's flaws. ultimately, that's what makes re-starting so much fun!  <br> V***V |

One thing I find funny when creating a new group...
after I've played certain characters with particular voices (personalities), I can't put those voices on a new player. It just doesn't fit! I find myself thinking, "Oh, no, that's Deena my Human Gadgeteer, that'll never do for a Mook Ranger!"
I think I've pretty much covered all the voices now... what to do???

Totally in agreement Merkin. Has anyone here finished the game without the third patch? I'm thinking of doing the total reinstall thingy myself and just adding the second patch. Knip |

~~knip~~ i almost had decided to do just that. install patch B and nothing more. but you know what made me go ahead? i knew they were working on a patch for the patch, but that's not why i did it. it was because of the dang 3DSetup. it just wouldn't stick. sometimes, i would pause the game and notice that it reset to 640x480, and checking the wiz8.cfg (or whatever it's called) sure enough, it had reverted. i have enough trouble with motion sickness without making my eyes cross, too. ::pppbbbbh!!:: but, its not just that. i was scared. i really didn't want to be forced to restart. i like to make that decision myself, thankyouverymuch! ::smiles:: so, right after i scandisked, defragged, virii scanned and reinstalled top to bottom, i went for the patch. it worked well, because the 1.2.4 came right out, and this is a clean game. they really did stabilize the 1.2.2 patch, while implementing things the way THEY had wanted them from the beginning. i guess i really do prefer to play the game the devs want me to play. i figger i owe it to them, cause they slaved over it to make it the most enjoyable experience they could manage. hey, if it turns out a bust, i can just cry and curl up into a teeny tiny ball in a corner of the room for a few days, cussing myself out for a fool, then go it again. ::laughs at herself. wondering if she should let you know that she knows how crazy she sounds:: i never claimed to be anything close to normal V***V |

~vesselle~ restarting aint all that bad really............Im sorta looking forward to it (again)..........my party at the moment is looking a bit sad I just LUV the character creation....and when you get to know the best way to add points to level ups the game takes on a whole new meaning..............I havent worked it out yet...but am getting close......(sorta...lol) Knip ps...I still luv my blond female bard ;D bless her southern heart. |

~~knip~~ hey. anyone check to see if there's a limit to how many chars you can make? i had 39 before. this time, i am up to 32. i bet you could do up to the 100s. wow! you could populate a whole city with explorer types. heh! with my efforts to remake the Blonde Brigade, i have 5 teams made. i'm actually creating another team as we speak... uh.. write. whatever!
