Is there anyway to split those stacks of potions and powders which quickly accumulate? At one time today I was down to a single stack of 5 potions and badly needed to have them given to two of my party at the same time. I couldn't see any way of taking the stack out of the party's inventory and giving, say, 2 to one character and 3 to the other so they could put them in their personal inventories.

Yep. At the bottom of your inventory screen there's an icon of two arrows moving away from each other. Click on that, it'll turn your cursor into a question mark, then click on the stack you want to split. That'll bring up a little window that asks how many to split off. Very handy.
You can also break off one at a time by shift-clicking on the stack.

Doh, yup, page 41 of the manual ... you know I think I prefer those manuals which provide little or no useful info, they prevent accute embarassment in those that ask questions when RTFM applies  Cheers Yep.
