The once Gadgeteer, still having the Engineering skill (no longer pumpable), should be able to continue to use existing Gadgets.
The once Samurai would not (methinks) be able to use Sam specific anything, as they are not Samurais at the moment. Not sure though, an interesting thought...

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think using items (gadgets, instruments) is dependent on fufilling requirements (does this char have at least 30 engeneering and at least 5 gageteer levels? Yes, then Ok you can use), while equiping and merging items is dependent on active class (Are you a samurai? No, then SOL ;D)

I believe that's correct... you can use gadgeteer items even if you aren't currently a gadgeteer, as long as you have the right about of engineering and gadgeteer levels. Same with the bard. I wonder whether level has anything to do with how effectively you can use an item or if it's solely your engineering level. Or if it's locked into the item itself.

Methinks it is a combo, but is only really testable by soemone with an editor.
1st level 0 skill, 50 skill, 100 skill
25th level 0 skill, 50 skill, 100 skill
50th level 0 skill, 50 skill, 100 skill
For both Gad and Bard. Would be interesting...

That would be very interesting to see.
Wonder whether anyone will do that.

Probably not, as that is a lot of time spent on that, considering the load time of silly-arsed SAFEDISK. Would be interesting though

No, i believe a few things would happen
A: he would lose the ability to use the omnigun
B: he would lose the ability to get more eningeering skill. (and the 25% bonous)
i think it would have the same effect as the bad switch at 18, gadgit require a certian gadgit lv and a certian engineerting lv
so he could merge things so long as he had the required skill (like alchs)
as for the skill/lv thing with bards, no point, as it lists requirements on the item

To get the hybrid characters magic up, you have to cast spells. The points at level up just dont cut it. The best spell to level up magic is light. Cast it at the highest power whenever you can spare. Once other non-combat spells become available, use them.
For the samurai, once you get your wizardry up to 15 and you are level 7, you can get missile shield, enchanted blade, and detect secrets in Arnika. Cast those alot.
For rangers and ninjas, once alchemy is up to 15, start mixing light and moderate heal. This will get you cash and help your alchemy.
Valks and lords - you can get your divinty up casting heal, identify or charm. Once you get 30 in divinty and level 9, then you can cast armor plate all the time.
Monks, dont really know, but I am sure there are some good non-combat spells to cast.
Hope this helps.

Hiya Arde. This board is pretty much empty now. We use it only for back up when the current board has problems. Please join us at spydah's Web. Just click on the address in my sig.

Everytime I click on your Sig I get a 404 Error.
A useful tactic I've always enjoyed is to take just one single Level of Gadgeteer on one of my Alchemists, Mages, Priests, Psionics or even Bishops. This delays your entry spell progression by a single level, but what it usually buys you is... 1) Greater Starting Hit Points. 2) 24ish Lockpicking with Gadgeteer Bonus and Poseur's Cap, which can be used on class change. 3) 14ish Engineering lets you cast unlimited Level 3 Energy Blasts with the Lightning Rod, when you don't want to waste mana. 4) The option to take 1-2 more levels later, which lets you train up lockpicks to 75 and use a few of the level 3 Gadgets.
