Excellent post, for an excellent class. I love Bards, and pretty much agree with your breakdown, my Bards always concentrate just on music and theiving. I stick a bow in their hands just for form's sake, and she get's a hit now and then, but I'd rather keep her wailing away on the pipes. Here's one thing I've learned with Bards. (at least hobbit Bards, the only way to go, IMO)
If you raise starting VIT to 56, it gives you one extra hp per level. That adds up really quickly, and makes the bard *just* durable enough that I can concentrate on more important stats. When I start the next party (after deleting/re-installing the game) I think I will raise DEX by 3, INT by 2, and SPD by 1 each level. She'll max out slower on INT, but I think be better rounded on the way up.

great work! thanks for posting it for us.
i am very partial to the bard, ever since discovering her in the demo. bards in ADD always seemed skewed to me, and just not fun to play.
i used a hobbit bard primarily and once a felpurr in all my previous parties, but this one i went with a mook. and i had not realized that about raising Vit to 56, merkin. imagine my pleasure, when i double checked just now and saw that i had her Vit at 56 (still level 1). i don't have my other parties to compare her with my other girls, but i do know that, being hobbits, they had a higher Speed to start.
i am curious to see how she will turn out! so far tho, she has the best initiative in the group and that is totally cool!

I think strength is important. My level 12 Bard is having a hard time lugging around all the great instruments she is finding. What is the penatly when your character is overburden in the weight department? I can understand if she was using weapons as her main attack that it would slow her down but she is only playing a horn or hitting a drum. Is the weight factor as crucial for a bard and for that matter for a spellcaster? thanks

I have just been finding out that being encumbered not only slows down movement rate, (I knew that already) but initiative, even for bards and spell-casters. I think I'm going to need to put a few str points into the little weenies for a few levels.

I found out the weight thing the hard way too. Never put a point in strength for my bard. Now all of a sudden, it's either remove an instrument or ammo or armor. Tough choice. My levels aren't that close together, either. Does anything else help besides strength. Like, maybe 3 points strength, three to vitality? Or is strength the only thing for weight? judee Who is getting a bit frustrated with her Explorer group. They're bearing the brunt of her inexperience.

Ha, Zannhart, I was just going to say that. I made a discovery right after that post. (Synchronicity, right?) I went in my game and found a stone that adds 10 points vitality. I tired it on several players and everyone of them I tried it on got a boost not only in HP and Stamina, but in Carry Capacity! It may not count as much as strength, but a Bard or especially a gadgeteer just doesn't need strenght for fighting. But Vitality - everyone needs Vitality! judee ps, don't you love it when you are looking for an answer to something and boom it shows itself right away when you start up the game? I found that stone after I asked the question. Loveit! ;D

Best race for a bard -- LIZARDMAN! (female)
Sure you say he starts out as an apprentice with -5 points, but he has the stat that you need -- Vitality.
I think it is the most important stat for a bard because stamina determines how often you can cast. All of the other stats are pretty well rounded, except for piety.
Pump points into dex and vitality at level up. Dex helps music and sword. Vitality helps stamina and hits.
Give him the berserker sword and a good shield. Who cares about it being cursed because he has his instruments for range attacks.
The bard needs to be female for the stamina regen necklaces.
blah blah blah. I gotta run so this post aint the best, but look at the stats and think about the Lizardman
